Matching Programs A Big Brother is a mature adult male, 19 years of age or older. He is matched with a father – absent boy, a Little Brother, between the ages of 7 and 14 to provide a positive male influence.
A Big Sister is a mature adult female, 19 years of age or older. She is matched with a Little Sister 6 to 16 years from any family situation and she provides a supportive, consistent friendship to the young girl.
One Year Match: Volunteers are asked to make a commitment of one year to see their Little once per week for 2 – 5 hours. This one to one relationship allows the Big to be a caring and significant role model and allows the pair to have fun, share similar interests and get to know each other. A close relationship can develop over time as a result of consistent contact, acceptance and encouragement of the Little.
Couple Match: This program matches a couple with a Little for a unique two-to-one friendship. This friendship can help to broaden the life of a child and provide acceptance, guidance and support. The agency strives to match each couple with a child whose needs correspond with the couple’s abilities, interests and preferences. Couples need to be a minimum of 20 years of age and have been in a stable common-law or married relationship for at least one year.
In School Mentor Match: This is a one to one relationship between an adult volunteer and an elementary school student who can benefit from a positive adult friendship. This occurs during school hours, at the child’s school, during the school year, for one hour per week. A minimum commitment of one school year is required.
