The Big Brothers and Big Sisters organizations have been creating friendships locally since 1966 and 1972.We started out matching Big Brothers with Little Brothers and Big Sisters with Little Sisters and have grown to include a variety of different programs that serve more children.We are proud of our achievements and continue to strive to be on the leading edge of the Big Brothers Big Sisters movement in Canada.


The Big Brothers organization of Windsor & Essex County began in 1966 by a man named Pierre Phillippe. Pierre recognized the rewards and satisfactions to be enjoyed by bringing together adult male role models and father-absent boys. With the help of Big Brothers of Canada, Big Brothers in Flint, Michigan and a local probation officer, they laid the foundation of what was the local Big Brother organization.


The Big Sisters Association of Greater Windsor served the Windsor-Essex community since 1972 and continued for 32 years with it’s mission to enhance the personal growth and well being of girls through friendships with adult female volunteers and through peer group support.

 

Seven years ago the two local organizations of Big Brothers of Windsor & Essex County and Big Sisters Association of Greater Windsor moved into their existing facility at 3050 Jefferson Blvd. in Windsor and on January 1, 2005 the new Big Brothers Big Sisters Windsor Essex was inaugurated into the history books as one
